Ohio City restaurant: Cleveland, Ohio

Will you be in Cleveland any time soon or already live there?  Ohio City is home to the West Side Market, celebrating it's 100 year anniversary this year.  The area around the market is thriving with restaurants and shops.  Crop Bistro and Bar, formerly of West 6th,  has moved into an old bank building.  It has soaring ceilings and a wonderful fresco behind the bar that is orginl to the space.

What a beautiful space, did the food match the look?  We went during the Brite Winter Festival.  It was sunny but the wind was oh so cold!  We started with a drink and snack at Flying Fig, more on that in another comment.  When we got to Crop it was packed.  We were lucky that people were just leaving the bar and we snagged a couple bar stools.  I loved it from that moment!  How often do you go into a restaurant and get the short shrift when you sit at the bar? Not so here.  The staff is super friendly, knowledgeable and you get the same level of service as if you were having table service.  They light a candle for you, set you up with place setting right away, and bring bread service with olive oil without waiting to see if your order will be worthy of a crust of bread.  We had the calamari--oh my god!  I think this is the best I've had in recent memory.  Yep, can't think of a better preparation.  Here's a pic:

Taken with my phone, excuse the quality.  We also had the scallop appetizer.  I loved the texture play: crisp polenta on the bottom, a huge tender scallop on that.  Then a robe of lobster sauce over that.  This is one of those things I wouldn't eat more than one of, it's good but super rich.  Probably half is even enough, the scallop is that huge and the sauce is that rich.
